The Hong Kong Labour Department on Friday afternoon increased the minimum allowable wage of foreign domestic helpers by 2.3 percent to $4,410 and food allowance by 1.5 percent to $1,053.
The raise will be effective September 30, said Vice Consul Fatima Guzman-Quintin.
Guzman-Quintin attended the meting of the LD with representatives of consulates-general of labor-sending countries to Hong Kong.
The Department of Foreign Affairs welcomed the raise, saying it will benefit “the more than 196,000 Filipino household service workers in Hong Kong.”
“The Department, through the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, will continue to work together with the Hong Kong government and other relevant groups to protect the rights and ensure the welfare of OFWs in the Territory,” the DFA said. —KBK, GMA News
