Employees working in the private sector can work for two companies, provided they have secured temporary work permits from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
The ministry clarified the queries of public about the possibility of a private sector employee taking up another job for a specific period despite having one already in place.
The ministry said the employee can obtain a temporary work permit whereby he/she can work for another company or establishment on an interim basis as per the law.
The ministry also said that the employer can move the employee from a company to another that belongs to him in case both the companies are owned by the same sponsor. The employee will assume the same job and get the same pay and allowances.
However, the ministry said there are certain conditions that must be adhered to so as to give a nod to a company to use an employee – UAE citizen or expatriate resident – to take up another job for a period of time, which does not exceed six months.
The worker must first be registered in the ministry’s database, and his or her work permit must be valid for more than six months, and the temporary work permit sought must not go above six months as well, or its period does not overstep the current work permit.
