Qatar’s Public Transportation Company Mowasalat is set to ease travel pressures within the country during Eid Al Adha holidays by running additional buses on select routes.
“Mowasalat will continue the practice of augmenting the bus services during Eid Al Adha as in previous years,” Assad A Khalil, Public Relations and Media Executive at Corporate Communication Department of Mowasalat, was quoted as saying by Qatar Tribune.
Mowasalat, which is the biggest transportation company in the country, operates a fleet of more than 4,000 taxis under the Karwa brand and its franchisees.
It has a total of 3,800 buses, of which 2,800 transport around 65,000 children to and from their schools. While 270 buses ply their trade on 52 routes around the country, 700 of them are pressed into service whenever there is a major event happening in the country.
The buses from Mowasalat is expected to help people to remote areas of Qatar and celebrate the occasion with their friends and loved ones. Late night bus services which link the Industrial Area with Doha and Al Khor has proven to be quite popular in the past, especially among the poorer workers housed in these places.
“The additional services provides us with an opportunity to visit shopping malls in Doha and attend special programmes organised by the government and different socio-cultural groups,” an Asian expatriate was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
